We are committed to coaching beginner, intermediate and advanced athletes in the weightlifting movements and working with athletes from all sports looking to improve their strength and speed through the use of the olympic lifts.

OUR FOCUS

  • THE SPORT OF WEIGHLIFTING

Beantown Barbell’s focus is to provide an environment for athletes to develop the technical, physical and psychological skills and characteristics necessary to succeed in weightlifting.

The sport of weightlifting is an athletic discipline in the modern Olympic program consisting of two lifts, the snatch and the clean & jerk. In the snatch, the athlete lifts the barbell from the floor to overhead in a single movement. In the clean & jerk, the athlete lifts the barbell from the floor to the shoulders (clean) and then from the shoulders to overhead (jerk). In a competition, each athlete has three attempts at the snatch and three attempts at the clean & jerk, the weights of the best of each of the contested lifts are added together to give the athlete a total. The highest total wins.

  • TRAINING FOR OTHER SPORTS

We are also committed to working with athletes in other sports who are looking to

  • Improve their proficiency in the olympic lifts; and

  • Utilize the snatch and clean & jerk (and their derivatives) to increase their strength and speed for their primary sport.

Developing proficient technique in the weightlifting movements will help increase force production in order to move more efficiently and explosively and improve balance, timing, flexibility and coordination.

OUR TARGETED ATHLETES

We will work with motivated athletes of all levels and age categories. Experience is not a prerequisite.
